Howto upload Stereo 3D (Flat SBS) Videos?

Settings for Flat SBS 3D videos. The View Angle needs to be 180 and the Format is SBS. And the video file needs to be a Full-SBS 3D file. It should upload good, without admin help.

DraiKo Thanks for confirming. I was able to figure out those settings through trial and error over the past few weeks. I’ve been able to upload my past few Flat 3D videos without any issue or admin involvement. But I don’t know if the average user is going to know to choose those settings. SBS and View angle of 180 is also the settings one would use to upload a VR180 video. Having to select any “View Angle” at all is a bit confusing since it’s just a Flat video. Hopefully, in the future, the upload page is clearer. Half SBS is a popular flat 3D format and users need to know that DeoVR does not support that format, but supports Full SBS. (Although I believe the DeoVR player can play both formats locally without issue)

I think the problem with flat 3D videos in DeoVR can be easily fixed. It’s not a bug or technical issue that needs programmers to figure out. It’s just a simple user-interface problem. Need to make uploading all the various immersive video formats as easy as possible. Maybe a link on the Upload page describing what each format is and the recommended upload settings)

Unrelated, I do think it’s great that DeoVR supports passthrough videos on their platform. But the current process to create a passthrough video in a way DeOVR can playback is so complicated, I believe many users are not going to try. And the current Upload page gives the user any indication that DeoVR even supports passthrough videos.

You may have actually got that information from me, haha. And unfortunately, it is not correct. A few months ago, I started messaging every DeoVR user I could find that had successfully uploaded a Flat 3D video file to DeoVR. One of them responded and said that he sets his videos as Video Type: SBS and View Angle: 180 and that he uploads full side-by-side 3D videos (not half side-by-side) So I relayed that info to support/Katya who may have relayed that info to you. But I have uploaded at least a dozen videos since then using those exact settings and they display properly 0% of the time. I think the few times I thought it worked (and the user I spoke to thought his worked) must have been due to a DeoVR moderator changing the settings after the video has processed, but before the video was published. So I thought those settings worked, but I was just unaware of DeoVR admins fixing them for me.

So to summarize, SBS and View Angle 180 does NOT work. And it makes sense why it wouldn't work - because those are the settings of a spherical VR180 video. Flat 2D and Flat 3D videos do not need a "View Angle".

spinningblade Hey hello, yeah actually we are working to add this video setup in the user interface, we are doing some changes in this will be one of them, thanks a lot for the tip.
Regarding videos with PT, do you have any video that you want me to check? just to see manually if the platform supports it, and make things easier.

DraiKo I was planning on re-uploading a few of my existing VR180 animations as passthrough videos, but I think I will wait until the upload process and interface is updated. Since my animations come straight from animation software, I have the ability to save the file as a .MOV file (ProRes444) with a built-in alpha transparent channel. So don't need to key out any green or remove any background. But it doesn't seem that I can upload a .MOV file with alpha channel to DeoVR yet.

DraiKo I think I spoke too soon! While I was able to post a few Flat FullSBS 3D videos using the "SBS" and "180" View Angle settings, I posted another one last night and it is playing back completely distorted as if it were a spherical 360 video. I'm not sure why this video didn't play properly when the others did. Maybe a DeoVR moderator was fixing the other videos and I didn't even know it.
Anyway, based on my emails with DeoVR customer support, I was told the admins have a "Flat" checkbox they need to check on videos in order to get them to play Flat instead of Spherical. Can someone do this for my video? (username spinningblade) It's the newest video in my channel that is currently set to Private.

spinningblade I've checked the video and tried to change the settings, but it was still distorted. I asked our moderators to check.

KatDEO I have no idea why this one got distorted. I feel like the uploaded processed it as a VR180 video since I chose SBS and View Angle 180. Some of my other videos had this spherical distortion earlier, but I thought you checking the “Flat” setting fixes this.

@KatDEO it looks like the moderator fixed the spherical distortion. (although the only way I was able to see the fixed version was deleting the DeoVR app and re-installing it) Even though my app is supposed to clear the cache when I quit the app, it seemed to have kept the previous distorted version in cache until i deleted the app.

Can you find out exactly what the moderator did to fix the distortion? Is there anything I can do when I upload the file to avoid this issue?

I just uploaded a new Flat 3D video and once again, it is being played back as a spherical video. Can a moderator please fix this distortion? (checking the "Flat" button seems to have worked in the past) The video I need help with was published 5 hours ago on deovr and is currently set to Private. Once the distortion is fixed, I can switch it to Public. Thank you.

is there a dedicated setting for these spatial videos in DeoVR ?

they are side by side - but not 180

ideally I shouldn't have to re-format them into 3d180 file

lucidtripper welcome to my world, haha! I’ve been talking with DeoVR for the past 2 months trying to fix this upload process. Your spatial videos are Flat side-by-side 3D video. Currently, DeoVR does not support uploading flat 3D videos. You need to upload them as if they were a VR180 video….SBS with a view angle of 180. About 40% of the time, it will playback properly. But the rest of the time, it will play it back as if it were a VR180 video, which will stretch and distort your flat video into a spherical projection. In the latter case, you need to contact DeoVR support and one of the moderators can change the projection back to Flat SBS 3D. (They apparently have video options on their side that users currently do not)

spinningblade Hello there! I saw your discussion about Flat 3D SBS videos. I'm having the same problem. Since there is no specific option for this kind of video in the upload page, no matter what settings I choose, the video gets distorted at the end. How did you solve your issue? Did you find a way to upload flat SBS without admin help? If not, how do you get in contact with the admins to fix your videos?

Hello, I'm having the same problem. I uploaded a full SBS 3D video, but it got distorted.
Since there is no "flat 3d" option in the upload page I had to choose SBS and then 120deg.
But it got distorted.
