I'm on Quest 3.
I had opted out of the live update channel but now the opt-in and live are both on this version, and I say this respectfully but frankly, I believe it's completely unusable. in Passthrough 6Dof, moving forwards, backwards, up or down barely changes your elevation or distance whatsoever, but for whatever reason, moving laterally is a MASSIVE difference. Even natural, unintentional slight head movements completely shatter the experience, because you can either turn 6Dof way up to compensate for elevation/distance slowness, and have the video insanely wobbling around everywhere anytime your head moves even slightly, or you can turn it way down, and have the video not feel placed in the room at all, slowly staying in place and getting left behind well out of your field of view anytime you turn your head too much.
It also seems like even with "Override 6Dof" turned off, it's back to this old problem DeoVR used to have again where the placement of the video just isn't consistent. Like, if I'm looking one place, turn my head quickly, and then turn my head back to exactly where it was before, the video will be in a slightly new place than it was before. For a while turning off the override would fix it, but now there's just nothing I can do, apparently.
Also, changing the "tilt" stretches the video out majorly on the top and bottom, where it didn't do that before. For a little bit you could go into options and change it to "load 180 stereo by default" (can't remember exact phrasing) and depending on the dimensions of the video, it would fix it, but now, I don't even know if ticking that box changes the aspect ratio at all. It reloads the video, but doesn't seem to change anything. That's a deal breaker for me, as it makes using the custom video settings useless. If the settings are there to grapple with the esoteric dimensions of the video, what is the point if any adjustment you make is going to squash and stretch whenever you look up or down?
And I don't know what's up with the color grading. I feel like in passthrough the video feed got grainier and brighter, too bright, even with my device brightness all the way down - like they boosted the crap out of the brightness, contrast and sharpness by default in passthrough video and in the HUD, forcing me to do the same to the video to try to match it to the passthrough feed, but then it just makes everything look the same amount of bad if I do that, like an oldschool JPEG that got re-saved several times and has too much artifacting. And even if I do try to calibrate the video to the passthrough feed, for whatever reason the edges of the people places and things in any given video never blend into the background anymore no matter what I do, and it wasn't like that before. It's hard to explain, but the video and the passthrough feed just clash with one another in a very illusion breaking way.
I also found that switching between 3253 and the previous version when it was still available, whenever i was on 3253, it was like the app was trying to re-compensate for where it thought my eyes were trying to focus, even in the menus and the HUD. I can't explain it but i just couldn't seem to really "see" anything, almost like i had double vision. Obviously, fussing with the lenses didn't help, i always can see just great with them an "Min" anyways. At first I thought maybe I'd been using the app too long and closed it, but then I noticed as soon as I did, I could see things just fine, and the colors seemed less bad, too. Once I switched back to the older update, it stopped happening. I put this last in my list because I just don't know if I imagined it, although I did switch between them quite a bit trying to test my theory and it did really seem like it was the new update just like assuming where my eyes were trying to focus and being wrong, or trying to calibrate the left and right renders to be aligned with where it thought the device should be resting on my head, or something weird like that, I don't know. But I know it's happening again now that I'm on the new update.
are we going to get any new opt-in version anytime soon? Does anyone else notice this stuff? I know I may sound unfair or nitpicky, but I do so because I've had a lot of fun with this app, I really appreciate this app and I've been here from day 1. My only gripe with it is all the hysterical tinkering that goes on - it really ruins my day off when I turn it on to find out "oh, I guess I can't do that today, because they nerfed it and it sucks now and I can't downgrade it because that's not allowed and I probably am not going to know when or if it'll be better again and there may or may not be hordes of people who gaslight me about the changes simply because it doesn't bother them personally so they aren't invested enough to see what I'm saying." it's sort of a bummer. thanks for your time
