While I don't agree with the move, I understand the business logic behind this. All free programs have limited life-span. The famous Facebook almost didn't survive because they had to "figure out how to make a parachute while free falling." DeoVR is tapping into a big market and they want to focus their effort toward that direction, before their money runs out.
I sincerely hope you guys will make it. And I also hope the flat-and-small built-in web browser should get a much needed upgrade. If you want to tap into that market, the current browser or the video wall is not good enough.
Also, you guys should have some co-operation with Stash guys. Their database program is excellent, and if you can support their database with just a simple browser upgrade, DeoVR will get to the top much faster.
I know it because I have my own specially compiled Stash which works great with DeoVR. Imagine if you guys work with them and push a Stash-DeoVR combo, that will be a dream come true for many people. And you actually don't need to do much effort.
