Why does the Quest standalone version differ so much from the PC version? The PC version of the DeoVR video app seems to have significantly lower resolution, even though it runs on a computer with astronomically more power than the Quest 3.

I understand that the PC version was originally developed for the Oculus Rift. It’s interesting that, using the Quest Link app, I can set the resolution to 5K, and the GUI in the PC version becomes razor-sharp—much sharper than in the Quest standalone version—but the videos still have noticeably worse resolution.

I would really like to achieve the same video quality on the PC as on the Quest standalone. Is there any way to do this?

Best regards

Chris

Hey Chris.
What do you mean by "worse resolution"?
The same local video looks different on different versions? Or the same streaming video?

I'm not being helpful, but deovr on my standalone quest 3 is waaaay better, crisper, more fluid.

A bad example I think of is you're using apple ios on a knock-off android phone your whole life, and then suddenly you can afford an iphone.

This move probably to promote quest 3 sales??

In other news, I actually no longer link my quest 3 to my beastly pc, and use it standalone entirely with wireless earbuds that has passthrough wall charging to experience deovr there instead.

Regardless, a win-win situation for me >_>. the no wires feels temporarily relaxing....

But I will instantly run back to linking with pc if you changed your mind and made it Even better there... So please don't rock me back and fourth like that.

I only use my Quest 3 unconnected to a PC too. I did try the WIFI PC bridge connect once, but bleh.

I did that last December, but I had quality issues too IIRC. I think it was due to codec BS, and I wasn't going to make a Windows account so I could download the bloody H265 codec from the Windows Store so Windows could play that format well.

Yea, since deovr with link cable lowers video quality don't even bother.

Deovr racking in huge sponsorship from 3rd party battery sales.
