  • Please please please post APKs somewhere

I get it, this is a free app and you probably don't have all the QA you need. But I keep opening it on my Quest 2 to find that the latest update has broken me. I spent over an hour this morning trying to find an APK for a previous version to sideload with no luck.

Is there any chance we can get direct links to the APKs so we don't have to be at the mercy of automatic updates to broken releases? I really like DeoVR and feel it's the best player for the Q2 but the uncertainty of whether it will work when I turn on my device is killing me. With actual APKs I can sideload it to prevent automatic updates, and then test the new ones when I am ready but still have the ability to rollback.

I'm also interested in the older (or future) APKs for similar reasons, I'd like to keep a version that works well without the fear of auto-updates. I can't find the proper Quest APKs anywhere and the SideQuest version disappeared for whatever reason.

Hello!
Unfortunately, some technical processes cannot work without updating, this is due in most cases to interaction with the backend. Therefore, updates will still need to be installed, and we cannot provide links to old versions.
Better just write to support, what is broken and we will help to solve these issues.
Hope for your understanding!

This is incorrect, older versions of DeoVR run perfectly fine. In fact, as many posts on the forum have demonstrated, for many users the older versions run better than the newer ones. See this thread on the Steam Community forums where multiple people give instructions for how to download older versions of the software: https://steamcommunity.com/app/837380/discussions/0/3151934575294138631/

No, you could, you just don't want to.

Writing to support is a waste of time. See this thread https://forum.deovr.com/d/456-problems-with-vp9-lavfilters where many people have reported the same issue, with detailed descriptions and possible workarounds, and the issue has never been acknowledged. Or take https://forum.deovr.com/d/421-very-low-framerates-in-8k-videos-after-latest-update where a bunch of people have reported severe bugs which make the software essentially unusable for a bunch of different videos, and the issues have still not been resolved multiple months after they were reported.

But don't worry, everyone experiencing critical bugs which break basic functionality! The devs are still hard at work adding super important things like... erm... AB loops that can be controlled down to the millisecond and something called "ZCam K1 Pro fish-eye mesh support"! Why on earth would you want to use an older, much more functional version, when you'd be missing out on these amazing additions?!?!

This is a really disappointing way to engage with the community.

So I've since moved on from DeoVR - there seems to be something else going on with their decisions apart from keeping the general user happy. Somebody mentioned they have close ties to a specific site; I don't know anything about that but it would explain a lot.

I moved to Pigasus player. It costs a few bucks and the DeoVR control scheme is still better, but it supports DLNA, Samba, and can view images and even comics.

That said, I did have a plan for how to make a community-run DeoVR apk library. You can back up APKs through Sidequest. Side loading them ends up with them still being connected to the Oculus store (so they auto-update) but I think we could use something like APKTool to unpack and repack them to break the connection to the store. In theory this would let us create side loading APKs for DeoVR that won't auto-update.

Not sure if anybody wants to take on attempting that; for me it was easier to just switch to Pigasus.

Yar Could you at least provide APKs for the current version then? DeoVR APKs used to be available on SideQuest so I don't see the problem.
Why was it removed from SideQuest by the way?

zecagado For Sidequest, we need to go through the application verification again, we sent a request - approval can take up to 72 hours once we send for approval.

bxduh4cci3 We have a reserve of backend compatibility with older versions, they may work for a while. But sooner or later they will have to be updated.
Other issues are in the process of being corrected and will be resolved.
