WatcherX Also unless you are port forwarding, access would be restricted to your internal network anyway.

The restrictions that I personally require are per user account, not just an internet restriction. A simple internet restriction is incredibly easy to set up.

I would either have to set up login access on an http server or set up restrictions based on individually set up ip addresses. Either way I would very much prefer to just use my existing restrictions with SMB.

If I really need it, I may at some point consider setting up ip address based restrictions, because that would work ok enough, and would be simple to do without requiring login accounts for it. I'll probably still just wait for SMB support to be added though.

Waiting for this too. Messed around with DLNA - what a nightmare. SMB PLEASE!

Why make everything so complicated while you can have access to Everything by just turning on one setting in an app? 🙂 Video demonstration: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BirjFLJbiP9bFHtRJFcbXOLqLcuJvAe9/view?usp=sharing
.

You can do a lot more complicated searches and filtering with it. ie video: will list all known video file types.
/downloads/ lists all files in that folder.
/downloads/ c: lists all files in downloads folder on C drive.
To exclude stuff put a exclamation in front of it

!c: excludes c drive
!mkv excludes all files and folders with mkv in the name
/downloads/ !c: lists all files in downloads that are NOT on c drive
etc

.
Just install Search Everything. Enable HTTP sharing.
Browse to the http address and you'll even have a very powerful search function.

Not sure why it recorded with such a weird angle. I was looking straight forward.

Tony Why make everything so complicated

    cough ...for the developers 😒

Your proposed solution just makes things more complicated for users instead. How about just adding basic features that users expect, like SMB support and search, they really aren't that complicated.

I get what you mean, but it's literally enabling one checkmark after installing Everything

+1 please add this feature, i need it too

Tested the "Everything" solution. It works VERY well. Save yourself some time and headache waiting for SMB and spend 5 min setting it up.

I personally hope that when they add this feature, they will add the ability to rename and delete files. That would be great for sorting through files.

      Hello!
Yes, smb support is on our to-do list. But, unfortunately, there are more important issue and tasks. The developers are preparing a big update. Perhaps after it the roadmap will be edited and some options added. But I can't guarantee.
      Follow our updates!

I know it is an old topic... (:
But are the any plans to make the 'Everything solution' work again?
Or even an information why it doesn't work anymore?
      Would be awesome!

Anton I second this, just tried to use the "Everything solution" and thought it would be a slam dunk, but no, it just does nothing but lock up for a while when I click on a link, should be a no brainer that this should work, it would appear to me that it must have been "turned off"/ blocked for some reason? If not why is it not working!?

        • Tony replied to this.

I used it for a while and it was awesome ...!
For some reason it doesn't work anymore since the last update.
Think it's just a bug ... and it would be awesome if some dev would make a statement to this issue

          Hello
It's been months, still no SMB support?
If not how could I view videos that are on my PC on my Quest 2?
I can with Skybox but many videos are not compatible with it and Deo has a superior rendering

            Hey hey!
We are focused on streaming service, you can still view your videos via DLNA!

vegetaleb Deo does not have a superior rendering compared to Skybox, Pigasus or Heresphere.

SMB support is my preference as it uses less resources than a streaming service via DLNA. I don't need all the fancy options you get with say Plex or Kodi. I just want to play my video clips I have on disk. DeoVR has great potential but the lack of various video and audio codec and file format limits its uses for my purposes.

DLNA support works nicely from my testing, just more than I need.

            2 years later

I would like SMB in DEOVR, dlna has lots of hangs and crashes, SMB is smoother and faster, to the dev of this DEOVR please place it in your next update.

I second the suggestion of SMB support. It's easy to setup a computer in my home for DLNA, but it's quite inconvenient to do it while traveling. Most travel routers supports SMB sharing, but not DLNA. Plus DLNA is not a safe protocol in the public places.
