Is there any actual update on this? These issues have been happening for over six months now, and it is hard to understand why nothing has been addressed. It really feels like DeoVR on Quest 3 has become borderline unusable unless you are willing to do a ton of manual tweaking every time you use it.
I am referring to a few major problems here, which may or may not be related, but together they make the app frustrating and inconsistent. At this point, the core experience is broken.
First off, the zoom function does not work properly. I can adjust it from 1.00 to 0.60 or 1.5, and it looks like it is working at first, but then the moment the video starts playing or I interact with the media, it resets itself to 1.00 every single time. I have tried everything I can think of, including adjusting aspect ratio settings, playback parameters, even changing the way files are loaded. Nothing fixes it. This makes zoom functionally useless. It is not a small bug either. Zoom is an essential feature for many VR setups, especially when dealing with different video formats and field of view preferences.
Then there is the aspect ratio and parameter issues. This is harder to explain clearly, because it is inconsistent and varies depending on the file. But often, things just look off. The proportions are wrong, playback settings do not stick, and the image can stretch or compress in strange ways. I get things dialed in for one video, and then the next file has completely different behavior. Trying to get a normal viewing experience has turned into a guessing game. It feels broken in a way that is difficult to describe unless you experience it for yourself.
Possibly the most disruptive issue is something that looks like a memory leak or a system resource problem. I can open up several files, both videos and photos, and everything will work fine for a while. Then suddenly, I try to load another file and get an error saying the format is not supported. These are the exact same files that were working minutes before. The only fix is to completely exit DeoVR. In some cases, I have had to reboot the headset. That is ridiculous. It kills immersion and makes the app unreliable. I do not know if it is actually a memory leak, but something is clearly breaking after extended use.
To be clear, I understand this is VR. I know the space is still experimental and constantly evolving. I am not expecting everything to be perfect all the time. Features like passthrough, six degrees of freedom, and advanced playback modes are complex. But there is a big difference between a new feature not working quite right and basic, core functionality falling apart. This feels like the latter. These problems are not new. They have been reported by multiple users across several forum threads for half a year or more. There has been no fix and no meaningful communication about progress or timelines.
Right now, as much as I hate to say it, Heresphere is the better app when it comes to video playback. It works. Settings persist, zoom actually functions, and the overall experience is smoother. But I still really like what DeoVR offers. It is a better experience for photos, and I think the user interface is cleaner and more user-friendly overall. In an ideal world, both apps would be core parts of a VR toolkit, each serving its strengths. But at the moment, DeoVR just does not hold up, not because it lacks potential, but because the current bugs make it unreliable and frustrating to use.
Please, I am asking as a long-time user who wants this app to succeed. Fix the zoom. Fix the aspect ratio handling. Fix whatever is causing playback to fail after a few uses. If these are not being worked on, at least give us an update.
Thanks.
