vranity , the Steam version of DeoVR was working fine with still images, because it hadn't receive the Photos update. I've made myself a local copy of the Steam version and cut its connection to the internet so it won't update. If your Steam version hasn't been updated yet you can try that (if the official fix doesn't come in time for your need).
