Static photo/video passthrough

Would like to request the possibility to use a local JPG (and/or possibly a video file) as a monoscopic (or SBS for stereoscopic ?) replacement for the passthrough camera feed.

Then people can choose their own backgrounds for videos with alpha channel passthrough. Would be cool to be able to take a panorama shot with a smartphone in any location and use it as a background.

Also pure VR headsets could then enjoy the passthrough effect and those with poor quality passthrough camera(s) could use a high-resolution color background instead.

180/360 Picture support is coming to DeoVR. Already in the development / implementation stage 🙂 Different backgrounds in PT are also planned.

Hi Kat, thanks for the reply, though I think we're talking about different things :-)

By 'picture support' I guess you mean showing pictures instead of videos. What I'd like to be able to do is e.g. take a stereoscopic picture with an iphone and use that as the PT background of a video instead of relying on a limited selection of e.g. prefabricated CGI backgrounds.

Just to add that the new Somnium VR1 headset will allow recording of stereoscopic video so I expect there will be in time more and more options for producing static backgrounds.

This would be a nice feature.
Why not start off by using the virtual environments or custom Skyboxes from DEOVR and or the Quest headset?

bncecil custom and virtual backgrounds are planned and will be released soon, most likely early 2024 🙂
