Help us test WebView — a built-in browser, right inside Hyper app

We're excited to share a new feature we've been working on — WebView — and we'd love your help testing it before it rolls out to everyone. 🚀

What is WebView?

WebView is a built-in browser that lets you open any website directly inside the DeoVR Hyper app — no need to jump to an external browser. It's designed to replace the current grid as your main content surface.

Don't worry — videos still play through the Hyper internal player, exactly as before.

How to try it

Download Hyper app from Meta Store
Apple Vision will be available soon
Open the app and find the address bar above the grid
Type deoweb and press Enter
WebView will launch — start browsing!

Actions in the menu don't work. Can't change url, size, bookmarks. Only forward/backwards actions work.
Photo section does not work, if you click sometimes you start a video, as if you were still in the video section.
Best features so far:
Having a feed for the channels I am subscribed to.
Having access again to the 180-vr category.

terryfi3d Photos are being worked on; they should be available upon full release. We will also improve URL handling.
You can also zoom in and out using "grip+up/down joystick" movement to change how far the grid is from you.

Apple Vision Pro is coming once review is completed from Apple side.

Some feedback, as requested:

1) I can't understand what exactly are the key features of this functionality. Why should I use this inner browser instead of Meta's browser, which is already connected to my accounts and stuff? What are the benefits? Please list them.

2) I can't type addresses or searches with my finger tips. Only pinch-arrow on a far away keyboard. That's not a good UI. The same comment applies to the basic Hyper app.

3) I searched for a SBS 3D image on Google Images with this browser. How do I see it in 3D now? I can't find any buttons or menu to do so. I can easily do that on Meta's browser (or any other browser made for VR). The same comment applies to the basic Hyper app. I can't find a way to adjust or force a video to the format I want.

4) I can navigate the web, but I can't navigate my own device to open local media. I can easily do that on Meta browser. For the time being, Hyper can't show local files and WebView can't either. That's a huge down, even compared to DeoVR itself.

Strange, they don't reply you. So let me try.

It's a more tightly integrated webview instead of a generic purpose one. You can specify the type of VR video on the website and the browser will play it in the correct way. Also it can be multi-resolution or multi-codec to fit your VR device's capabilities.
Well, you should appreciate that they actually provide you a keyboard.
Naming is the trick. Add the _sbs and _half to your file name and you will be fine.
They don't want you to browse local media from the start. The regular DeoVR player is the one to handle that. You just don't understand their business plan yet.

Interesting. I'll try to explore those features.
My point is what they have for Webview is inferior to the standard Meta keyboard, and even inferior to their own DeoVR keyboard. I don't see why they'll create a new/downgraded UI.
I'm not talking about my files. The thing is a web browser. I'm searching for files online that I know are 3D or 360 but there's no way to make Webview display them as such.
Correct. I don't understand it yet. That's why I asked. And they didn't answer, as you noticed. In the meantime I'm letting them know local media browsing is of the utmost importance to me. If they don't plan to transfer that function from DeoVR to Webview then I'm not planning to use this app.

The webview is intended for webpages designed with DeoVR's specs, not for any media on any webpages. So you are expecting a feature that was not their purpose at all.
There was a little story for this:
once upon a time they wanted to stop DeoVR player from supporting local media, as well as the pesky DLNA feature. Their plan from the beginning, is to make DeoVR the best online VR platform, not the local player king, which they already were. I happened to see the propose and said something about it. They probably thought I was right and developed an alternative plan to achieve the goal. So now the new plan is DeoVR Hyper, which is a pure online web player. Meanwhile we get to keep the good old DeoVR player as long as we like. To be honest I liked this new player, because it got rid of lots of old legacy stuff and poises to be a great online player. Eventually we might all jump the ship.

philpw99 About #3, that intent wasn't clear at all. Thanks. They could include those VR tools in the online version to make it more universal, though.

I totally understand number 4, from a business standpoint. But when I asked if they intend to abandon DeoVR once Hyper is finished the short answer was kindda "yes". So the situation is this. After DeoVR v14 they made local file viewing A LOT worse. They changed the defaults for worse and removed functionalities. They even declared they had no intention of fixing that. It never recovered. And now the whole "king" as you said has is days counted. It's sad, as my only remaining option is to keep that v14 APK "prince" in a safe place forever if I want to browse my own stuff.
